Melotone
Melotone are an alt-psych band from the Black Country, more interested in texture and ambience than ego. They draw inspiration from '60s psychedelia, namely the Tropicalia movement, with lulling guitar play and hypnotic vocals that float freely into Portuguese. Sometimes drifting into the realms of folk, jazz, and soul, Melotone are a truly global band despite humble beginnings, channelling instrumental pioneers Khruangbin and Kikagaku Moyo with vocals that resemble the arresting style of singers like Jeff Buckley and Brittany Howard, and at times the spirit of Portuguese-English singing Caetano Veloso.
Their debut single Dances On Tableaus received critical acclaim from the likes of METAL Magazine and Fred Perry Subculture whilst also landing them a deal with Think Twice Records. Releasing their sophomore single Entre Ondas in November 2022 under the label, Melotone were praised further across press and radio, including CRACK Magazine and Jamz Supernova who played Entre Ondas on BBC Radio 6 and featured Melotone as a First Look for 2023 Artist on The British Council’s Selector Radio.
Following two singles released earlier in the year, Melotone’s debut EP And... Beyond released on the the 21st July 2023. They are set to play Crofters Rights, Bristol to celebrate the release on the 22nd July, with support from t l k, Rossana and Bethany Ley (Fka. STANLÆY).
